Authors, Alan and Carolyn left their home in Tamborine Mountain in Queensland, Australia to travel fulltime in a Durango fifthwheel RV, bringing their dog, Sparky, along for the ride. The first year clocked up over 30,000 miles throughout the mainland USA including Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, north along the east coast through to Maine via Cape Cod and Boston. They traveled westwards via upstate New York, through Niagara, Buffalo, and back through Ohio to Michigan and Idaho. The many attractions included Yellowstone National Park, Mt. Rushmore in South Dakota, the Great Lakes and the Mississippi. Onwards through Washington State, Oregon, California, Arizona, Nevada they enjoyed some of the most amazing attractions in the USA.
Fulltime RV travel teaches many tough experiences along with the good times. They endured a squashed bicycle in Maine, (jammed in one of the slideouts!), suspension failure in Las Vegas, electrical failure in Ohio, and a stalling truck on a busy freeway in Nevada. These events invited Alan to apply his technical knowledge into RV repairs. Deciding to settle for a while in Northern California’s wine country, they purchased another fifthwheel. This time a new 40 ft Heartland Big Country. This became homebase in an annual Thousand Trails RV site in Cloverdale. The Durango was kept in storage for touring.
Carolyn applied her event management and incentive skills as Director of Groups and Tours at Santa Rosa’s ‘Food and Wine Trails’ – operating vineyard tours and cruises throughout Europe, New Zealand, Australia, and the USA. A former commercial pilot, Alan gained technical knowledge keeping his aircraft in check at outback Australian airfields, and wanted formal recognition for his technical skills.
On to formalizing RV repairs and maintenance skills
Alan received more experience maintaining a fleet of luxury event trailers, and moved on to factory endorsed training in the RV industry. His RVIA master certified credentials include factory training with Norcold, Dometic, Coleman, and Suburban, covering RV refrigerators, air conditioning, furnaces, propane systems, plumbing, chassis and framing. Alan advanced his training to Master level and began mobile services to RV owners in Sonoma County, San Louis Obispo and Monterey Counties.
Alan and Carolyn enthusiastically research RV accessories, mostly aimed at enhancing safer RV travel and camping. Some RV safety accessories are convenience items, others are related to fire prevention and other hazards all aimed at keeping your RV safe. Together they look forward to sharing their knowledge and experiences to help you and your family enjoy your next camping trip, in a addition to enhancing your RV safety credentials.
